Best Places for Wellness and Fitness

Compare places ranked by Nomadr’s stored wellness score, covering researched gyms, studios, healthcare access and other aspects of everyday wellbeing.

Ordered by our stored wellness score. The list draws from 333 of our 333 cities — cities we hold no score for are left out rather than ranked last. Showing 55 ranked cities; exact score-and-percentile ties share a rank and are never split alphabetically.

How we score this

Places are ranked by Nomadr’s wellness score. It counts the distinct gyms, recovery and mental-health providers and other wellness places named in our research for each place. That count is compared with every other place we cover: the more that are named, the higher the percentile, and that percentile is shown as a score from 1 to 10. The score reflects how many options our research names, not how good each one is. Places we hold no count for are left out rather than ranked last.

  1. =1tiedBangkok · ThailandGood to know: Most Bangkok gym chains (Fitness First, Virgin Active) push long-term contracts hard — short pay-as-you-go options exist (e.g. Fitness First's FITPASS) but per-visit cost is noticeably higher than a monthly plan.Among the 1% best cities for wellness10/10
  2. =1tiedPhnom Penh · CambodiaGood to know: Cambodia's economy is heavily dollarized, so almost every gym and club quotes and charges prices in US dollars rather than riel, even though riel is the official currency.Among the 1% best cities for wellness10/10
  3. =3tiedCanggu · IndonesiaGood to know: Canggu's gym scene splits clearly into budget no-frills boxes (FLEX Gym, Bull Gym, Fitness Plus) and premium 'gym + recovery club' hybrids (Obsidian, Omni, Reload Sanctuary, Nirvana Life) where sauna/ice bath is bundled into membership.Among the 5% best cities for wellness9.9/10
  4. =3tiedCape Town · South AfricaGood to know: Virgin Active, Planet Fitness and Zone Fitness all push long (12–24 month) contracts with much better monthly rates than short-term/off-peak options — as a nomad, expect to pay a premium for month-to-month access, and negotiate since gyms often discount hard near month-end to hit sales targets.Among the 5% best cities for wellness9.9/10
  5. =3tiedMelbourne · AustraliaGood to know: Ice bath and sauna recovery venues around Melbourne operate on a swimwear-required, mixed-gender basis (often private single-person or small-group booking slots).Among the 5% best cities for wellness9.9/10
  6. =3tiedTokyo · JapanGood to know: Tattoo policies vary a lot: mainstream gym chains and traditional public bathhouses often ban visible tattoos, but the newer private-room sauna venues (Kudochi, Sauna&Co, Totoken, etc.) are consistently tattoo-friendly since you never share a room with strangers.Among the 5% best cities for wellness9.9/10
  7. 7London · United KingdomGood to know: Budget chains like PureGym and The Gym Group are genuinely no-contract and rolling monthly, which makes them the easiest fit for a nomad staying a few weeks to a few months.Among the 5% best cities for wellness9.8/10
  8. =8tiedCairo · EgyptGood to know: Most Cairo gym chains sell annual memberships as the default (often EGP 6,500–15,500/year depending on chain and neighborhood), though monthly options exist and are more common at newer boutique studios.Among the 5% best cities for wellness9.8/10
  9. =8tiedDubai · United Arab EmiratesGood to know: Always take a free trial or day pass before committing — most major chains (GymNation, Fitness First, Gold's Gym) offer one, and this is the easiest way to check crowding at your preferred hours (peak is typically 6-8pm on weekdays).Among the 5% best cities for wellness9.8/10
  10. =8tiedLisbon · PortugalGood to know: Budget chains like VivaGym and Fitness Hut-descended clubs are cheap but often require a Portuguese or European bank account for direct debit sign-up — awkward for short stays.Among the 5% best cities for wellness9.8/10
  11. =11tiedChiang Mai · ThailandGood to know: Chiang Mai does not have a large-scale premium gym chain like Bangkok's Fitness First or Virgin Active — Jetts is the main international 24/7 chain here, and most other solid options are independently owned gyms clustered in the Old City and Nimman.Among the 5% best cities for wellness9.7/10
  12. =11tiedGeorge Town · Cayman IslandsGood to know: There is no dedicated stand-alone cryotherapy or ice-bath-only storefront right in George Town's downtown core — the main multi-modality recovery option (cryo, red light, sauna, ice bath) is at The Rec Room on Seven Mile Beach, a short drive away.Among the 5% best cities for wellness9.7/10
  13. =11tiedHo Chi Minh City · VietnamGood to know: Long-term gym contracts (6-15+ months) at chains like California Fitness & Yoga get progressively cheaper per month, so short-stay nomads often pay a much higher effective monthly rate than the advertised long-term price — always ask for the short-term/day-pass rate specifically.Among the 5% best cities for wellness9.7/10
  14. =11tiedOsaka · JapanGood to know: Anytime Fitness is the most nomad-friendly gym option in Osaka since it accepts foreign credit cards for billing and a foreign Anytime Fitness membership often carries over to Japanese branches.Among the 5% best cities for wellness9.7/10
  15. =11tiedTbilisi · GeorgiaGood to know: Gym pricing in Tbilisi is surprisingly steep for the region — premium clubs can cost more per month than basic gyms in Berlin or Lisbon, despite far lower local salaries.Among the 5% best cities for wellness9.7/10
  16. =16tiedAmsterdam · NetherlandsGood to know: Amsterdam gyms almost universally push 12-month contracts with automatic renewal, so check cancellation notice periods (often 1-2 months) before signing, especially with the big chains.Better wellness options than about 95% of cities9.5/10
  17. =16tiedAuckland · New ZealandGood to know: Most NZ gym chains (City Fitness, Anytime Fitness, Jetts, Snap) run 24/7 and offer no-lock-in 'flexi' plans, which suit short-stay nomads better than the discounted 12/24-month contracts.Better wellness options than about 95% of cities9.5/10
  18. =16tiedSingapore · SingaporeGood to know: Singapore's cold-plunge and ice-bath scene has expanded rapidly in the last couple of years, so newer venues may not have long track records yet — check recent reviews before committing to a membership.Better wellness options than about 95% of cities9.5/10
  19. =16tiedSydney · AustraliaGood to know: Sydney's recovery-and-cold-plunge scene has grown quickly, with dedicated sauna/ice bath studios now standalone businesses rather than just gym add-ons — CBD options like RCVRI and Bionik Wellness cater specifically to office workers on lunch breaks.Better wellness options than about 95% of cities9.5/10
  20. =20tiedBangalore · IndiaGood to know: Big Indian gym chains (Cult.fit, Gold's Gym, Anytime Fitness) all have multiple branches in nomad-heavy neighborhoods like Koramangala, Indiranagar, HSR Layout, and Whitefield, so proximity to co-living/coworking spots is rarely an issue.Better wellness options than about 95% of cities9.4/10
  21. =20tiedLimassol · CyprusGood to know: Several gyms (Anaplasis, Limassol Sporting Center, VIP-GYM, Sanctum) bundle sauna or steam room access directly into a standard membership rather than charging separately, which is worth checking before paying extra for 'recovery' add-ons elsewhere.Better wellness options than about 95% of cities9.4/10
  22. =22tiedBarcelona · SpainGood to know: Budget chains like Basic-Fit, VivaGym and Anytime Fitness are nomad-friendly: most offer no long-term contract, day passes, and don't require a Spanish bank account.Better wellness options than about 95% of cities9.4/10
  23. =22tiedBratislava · SlovakiaGood to know: Most Slovak gym chains (FitInn, some Golem Club plans) still push 12-month contracts; if you only want a short stay, look specifically for month-to-month options like Form Factory's no-commitment plan, Maximusgym, or pay-per-entry places like Fanatix.Better wellness options than about 95% of cities9.4/10
  24. =22tiedMontevideo · UruguayGood to know: Gym membership prices in Montevideo are usually advertised on aggregator sites with rotating daily promo discounts, so the first-month rate you see online is often lower than the standard walk-in rate — always confirm the actual monthly price at the front desk.Better wellness options than about 95% of cities9.4/10
  25. =25tiedBoracay · PhilippinesGood to know: Most serious lifting/cardio gyms in Boracay are small, independent, non-air-conditioned-or-basic setups in Station 1/Balabag (e.g. DC Fitness, King Fisher Gym) rather than international chains — don't expect a Gold's Gym-style franchise on the island.Better wellness options than about 90% of cities9.2/10
  26. =25tiedCopenhagen · DenmarkGood to know: Refshaleøen, home to CopenHot, Mikkeller Baghaven, and Butchers Heat, is a former industrial shipyard area about 15-20 minutes by taxi or the 2A bus from the city centre — worth budgeting extra travel time, and note some visitors find the surrounding industrial setting less polished than the marketing photos suggest.Better wellness options than about 90% of cities9.2/10
  27. =25tiedHanoi · VietnamGood to know: Hanoi's serious 'wellness club' scene is concentrated in Elite Fitness's flagship branches (pool, sauna, steam room, jacuzzi) — if you want that country-club feel, that's the main option rather than a dedicated spa/recovery brand.Better wellness options than about 90% of cities9.2/10
  28. =25tiedParis · FranceGood to know: Most mainstream Paris gym chains (Neoness, Fitness Park, Keepcool, Basic-Fit) are built around annual or long-commitment contracts, so short-term visitors should specifically look for day passes, Urban Sports Club, or ClassPass rather than trying to sign a standard membership.Better wellness options than about 90% of cities9.2/10
  29. =25tiedSarajevo · Bosnia and HerzegovinaGood to know: If you plan to move between neighborhoods or want variety, a FitPass-style multi-gym card can be more practical than committing to a single gym's monthly contract.Better wellness options than about 90% of cities9.2/10
  30. =25tiedSeoul · South KoreaGood to know: Korean gym pricing is structured to reward longer commitments — a 1-month membership is proportionally much pricier than a 6- or 12-month plan, so short-stay nomads pay a premium unless they use discount booking apps.Better wellness options than about 90% of cities9.2/10
  31. =25tiedSiem Reap · CambodiaGood to know: Cambodia is heavily dollarized — gyms and fitness venues in Siem Reap quote and are paid in US dollars directly, with Cambodian riel used mainly for small change, so USD is the currency you'll actually use day to day.Better wellness options than about 90% of cities9.2/10
  32. =32tiedMaui · United StatesGood to know: Most named gyms outside the resort spas (The Club Maui, Maui Powerhouse Gym, South Maui Fitness, Valley Isle Fitness) explicitly offer short-term/visitor or no-contract passes, which suits digital nomads better than the 12-month-commitment plans some locations push for locals.Better wellness options than about 90% of cities9.1/10

  34. =32tiedPhuket · ThailandGood to know: Gym culture in Phuket is spread across distinct nomad-relevant clusters — Bang Tao/Cherngtalay (higher-end, wellness-resort style), Phuket Town/Patong Walking Street (mid-range with strong Muay Thai crossover), and Rawai/Chalong/Kata/Karon (budget, local-style gyms) — so pick a gym based on which area you're actually based in.Better wellness options than about 90% of cities9.1/10
  35. =32tiedSapporo · JapanGood to know: Sapporo has a genuinely strong, locally documented sauna culture — it's often described by Japanese sauna-review sites as one of the country's leading 'sauna cities,' with dozens of central facilities combining Finnish-style saunas, self-served löyly steam, and cold-water plunges.Better wellness options than about 90% of cities9.1/10
  36. =32tiedTaipei · TaiwanGood to know: World Gym is by far the most nomad-friendly chain for short stays since single-club and multi-club plans exist, and staff will often negotiate the sign-up fee or offer promo pricing.Better wellness options than about 90% of cities9.1/10

  38. =37tiedDa Nang · VietnamGood to know: Da Nang's dedicated ice bath/sauna recovery studios (Recharged, Zone1Recovery, Oneness, Renora) are a very recent development, mostly opened in 2024-2026, and cater specifically to the nomad and fitness-traveler crowd rather than the general local population.Better wellness options than about 85% of cities8.8/10

  45. =37tiedPunta Cana · Dominican RepublicGood to know: Most polished fitness centers in Punta Cana are inside all-inclusive resorts (Hard Rock, Royalton, Excellence, Eden Roc, Finest, Barceló, etc.) and are built primarily for hotel guests — non-guests generally cannot just walk in, so check with the resort directly about day-pass or spa-day options.Better wellness options than about 85% of cities8.8/10
