Lower-rent places
Browse every place in Nomadr’s lower-rent housing band, listed alphabetically with its researched budget rent, the figure’s basis and its source link.
59 of our 333 cities are in the stored lower-rent band, shown with each place's own budget rent and its basis. This is not a ranking: every city in the band is listed alphabetically, and cities without a band are omitted.
How we score this
This list is not a ranking. Each place’s budget monthly rent from our research, in US dollars, puts it in one of three fixed rent bands, and this list shows every place in the lower-rent band, under $437 a month, alphabetically. Under each place is its own rent figure and what that figure is based on. Places whose only rent figure is a seasonal or holiday rate, and places with no budget rent, have no band and are left out.
- Almaty · KazakhstanKZT 156,883 / month · estimated · Auezov / outer districts · Studio or 1-bedroom apartment outside the city centerGood to know: Furnished short-term rentals aimed at nomads/expats are concentrated in Samal, Dostyk, Mega Park and the city-center half of the Medeu district — these are also the most competitive and priciest areas to rent in.
- Antalya · TurkeyTRY 14,599 / month · estimated · Konyaaltı · 1-bedroom apartment, lower end of market, further from beachfrontGood to know: Konyaaltı and Lara are the two beachside neighborhoods most nomads and expats gravitate to, both offering coworking spaces, cafes, and beach access, but rents there run noticeably higher than in more residential districts like Muratpaşa or Döşemealtı.
- Arequipa · PeruPEN 774 / month · estimated · Cayma · Furnished 1-bedroom apartmentGood to know: Yanahuara is the center of gravity of the expat community, a twenty-minute walk from the historic center across the Río Chili, with the highest concentration of cafés with fast internet and English-language menus.
- Baku · AzerbaijanAZN 550 / month · estimated · Nasimi / Narimanov · Small furnished studio or 1-bedroomGood to know: Rents vary sharply by district: Numbeo data shows Baku's city-center apartments rent for nearly double the price of units just outside the center, so choosing a nomad-favored district (Sabail, Nasimi, Narimanov, Yasamal) versus the outer suburbs makes a big budget difference.
- Bangalore · India₹26,000 / month · from a local listing · Indiranagar · 1BHK, ~700 sq ft, semi-furnishedGood to know: Airbnb and rental-portal monthly prices vary hugely by building age and amenities — semi-furnished long-lease listings (common on portals like 99acres/Square Yards) are usually far cheaper than fully furnished serviced apartments aimed at short stays, so compare like-for-like before booking.
- Bansko · Bulgaria€300 / month · from a survey or cost-of-living site · General Bansko (local, non-complex rentals) · Basic, older-style furnished studio or 1-bedroom apartmentGood to know: Bulgaria officially adopted the euro on 1 January 2026, replacing the Bulgarian lev — prices you'll now see quoted locally are in EUR, not BGN.
- Batumi · GeorgiaGEL 1,042 / month · estimated · Off-boulevard city-center streets · Basic furnished studio apartmentGood to know: Rental listings in Batumi are almost always quoted and negotiated in US dollars, not Georgian lari — even for local landlords — so budgeting in USD is normal here.
- Belgrade · SerbiaRSD 40,681 / month · from a survey or cost-of-living site · Mirijevo or Karaburma (outer, budget alternative to the central nomad neighborhoods) · Studio or 1-bedroom, older furnishings, sometimes a basement unitGood to know: Most Belgrade rental listings and even some grocery/restaurant price guides are quoted in euros even though the dinar (RSD) is the official currency — always confirm which currency a landlord or menu is actually charging in before paying.

- Boracay · Philippines₱18,500 / month · estimated · Balabag / near Bulabog · Studio or 1-bedroom apartmentGood to know: Rent and grocery prices swing noticeably between peak season (roughly November-May) and low season, and between the busy Station 1-3 strip versus quieter Balabag/Bulabog areas — always ask what's included (wifi speed, aircon hours, utilities) before booking a monthly stay.
- Chiang Mai · ThailandTHB 13,000 / month · from a local listing · Nimmanhaemin, near One Nimman · Studio/1BR serviced apartment, short-term monthly contractGood to know: Nimmanhaemin (Nimman) is the nomad/expat hub with coworking spaces, cafes and modern condos, but it's also the priciest neighborhood — the same unit type can cost noticeably less in nearby Santitham or the Old City.
- Chișinău · MoldovaMDL 4,344 / month · estimated · Outside city center (e.g. Botanica, Rîșcani, Ciocana) · 1-bedroom apartment, older Soviet-era building stockGood to know: Most furnished rentals aimed at foreigners come with basic furniture and appliances already included, though decor in older buildings can still have a retro Soviet look — always confirm what's included before paying.
- Colombo · Sri LankaLKR 100,300 / month · from a local listing · Colombo (exact neighborhood not specified in the listing) · 1 room, 1 bath, furnishedGood to know: Furnished rental listings that actually show up on property portals right now skew toward high-rise towers in Colombo 02, 03 and 07 — more modest furnished apartments and shared rooms exist but tend to be found via ikman.lk, Facebook expat groups, or word of mouth rather than international booking sites.
- Da Nang · Vietnam₫7,000,000 / month · from a local listing · An Thuong 2, My An, Ngu Hanh Son · 1BR, 50 m², fully equipped kitchenGood to know: Fully furnished units (bed, AC, washing machine, kitchenware) are close to universal for apartments marketed to foreigners in Da Nang, so 'furnished' rarely needs to be negotiated separately.

- Dharamkot · India₹11,000 / month · estimated · Bhagsu / lower Dharamkot · Furnished single-room studio with attached bathroom and small kitchenGood to know: Walk-in negotiation for a monthly room rate consistently beats booking the same room online, and many guesthouses in Upper Bhagsu and Dharamkot have an unpublished monthly price that never appears on booking platforms — just ask directly.
- Dumaguete · Philippines₱18,000 / month · from a local listing · Sibulan (adjacent to Dumaguete, near airport) · 2-bedroom, 2-storey, fully furnishedGood to know: Furnished apartment listings cluster around Bagacay, Piapi, Sibulan, and areas just outside the city center like Junob and Bacong — these are worth checking first for short-term furnished stays.
- El Nido · Philippines₱20,000 / month · estimated · El Nido town (Poblacion/Maligaya) · Furnished studio or small 1BR apartmentGood to know: El Nido has very little formal long-term furnished rental inventory listed online — most nomads end up negotiating directly with guesthouses, apartelles, or coliving operators (like the ones in Corong Corong) for a monthly rate rather than finding it pre-listed.
- El Tunco · El Salvador$350 / month · from a survey or cost-of-living site · El Tunco village · Basic studio apartmentGood to know: El Salvador's official currency is the US dollar, so nomads face no exchange-rate risk or currency conversion here — all prices are already in USD.
- Goa · India₹28,000 / month · estimated · Anjuna / Assagao · Basic 1BHK apartment, simple furnishingGood to know: Housing prices vary sharply by exactly where you land: a furnished 1BR in Assagao or Siolim can cost noticeably more than the same size unit further inland or in South Goa's Palolem/Agonda area.
- Hanoi · Vietnam₫10,102,646 / month · from a local listing · Tay Ho, near West Lake · Small studio/1-bedroom apartmentGood to know: Tay Ho (West Lake) is the clear expat/nomad hub, but rental prices there vary enormously by street and view — a lakeside or park-view unit can cost double an identical layout a few streets back.
- Hoi An · Vietnam₫7,771,266 / month · from a survey or cost-of-living site · Hoi An (general, outside prime beachfront) · Basic studio or small furnished apartmentGood to know: An Bang Beach, about 4km from the Ancient Town, is the area most expats and long-term visitors gravitate to, offering a village feel plus beach access rather than the tourist density of the Old Town center.
- Hurghada · EgyptEGP 10,000 / month · estimatedGood to know: Furnished, short-stay rentals in El Kawther/El Hadaba run well above the unfurnished long-lease numbers quoted in many generic cost-of-living articles - budget for the furnished figure, not the annual-lease one.
- Johannesburg · South AfricaZAR 6,950 / month · from a local listing · Rosebank · Studio/bachelor apartmentGood to know: Furnished, short-stay apartments cluster tightly around Rosebank Mall and the Gautrain station — this is the most walkable and best-served area for a car-free nomad stay in Johannesburg.
- Kathmandu · NepalNPR 20,000 / month · the operator's own price · Thamel / Lainchaur / Paknajol / Sorhakhutte · Entry-level furnished studio/small apartmentGood to know: Thamel has the densest supply of furnished short-stay apartments and is walkable to nightlife and cafés, but units there skew toward tourist turnover, can be noisy, and light/space are often limited.
- Kigali · RwandaRWF 500,000 / month · from a local listing · Kimironko · 2BR/2BA apartmentGood to know: In Nyarutarama and Kimihurura, many landlords quote rent in both USD and RWF side by side — expect the RWF figure to move with the exchange rate even if the USD 'sticker price' stays fixed.
- Koh Phangan · ThailandTHB 12,500 / month · estimated · Inland Thong Sala / quiet village roads · Basic 1-bedroom Thai house, simple furnishingGood to know: Rents run noticeably higher right on the Sri Thanu beach strip than a short scooter ride inland toward Thong Sala or Baan Tai — the same budget can get a much bigger place if you're willing to be 10-15 minutes from the main cafes.
- Koh Tao · ThailandTHB 10,000 / month · estimated · Sairee Beach (set back from the beach road) or Mae Haad · Basic studio/1BR, older building, fan or basic ACGood to know: Rents and even grocery availability shift with the season — low season (roughly May to October) tends to bring cheaper long-stay deals and quieter negotiating power with landlords.
- La Paz · BoliviaBOB 2,552 / month · estimated · Miraflores · Furnished studio/1-bedroom, budget-tier building, internet/amenities more basicGood to know: Sopocachi has the most active short-term/monthly rental market and is where most visiting nomads end up first; Zona Sur (Calacoto/San Miguel) is quieter, lower-altitude and pricier, while Miraflores offers a cheaper middle ground with slightly less polished infrastructure.
- Labuan Bajo · IndonesiaIDR 3,000,000 / month · estimated · City Center / Waterfront · Studio or small 1-bedroomGood to know: Furnished monthly rentals are much harder to find online here than in Bali - most nomads end up messaging landlords directly on WhatsApp or arranging viewings in person rather than booking through a platform.
- Langebaan · South AfricaZAR 7,000 / month · from a local listing · Langebaan Central · 1-bedroom apartmentGood to know: Langebaan is a small lagoon town, not an established digital-nomad hub — there's no dedicated coworking/nomad cluster, so housing and price data above are grounded in the general rental market (Langebaan Central, Myburgh Park, Flamingo Park, Club Mykonos) rather than a specific 'nomad neighborhood'.
- Lijiang · ChinaCN¥2,000 / month · estimated · Outside Dayan Old Town, newer city area · Basic furnished studio or 1-bedroomGood to know: Lijiang's living costs are notably lower than China's tier-1 cities like Shanghai or Beijing — most nomad guides put a central 1-bedroom apartment around $400/month, well below big-city equivalents.

- Luang Prabang · LaosLAK 5,556,032 / month · estimated · Old Town Peninsula / Ban Visoun · Basic furnished studio or small 1-bedroom, local-standard finishGood to know: Furnished monthly rental listings are much less standardized in Luang Prabang than in bigger Southeast Asian nomad hubs — many of the best deals for month-long stays come from direct guesthouse arrangements or local Facebook expat groups rather than listing portals.
- Manila · Philippines₱22,000 / month · from a local listing · Salcedo Village, Makati · Studio, fully furnishedGood to know: Most furnished condo listings in Makati and BGC are advertised as monthly rent but actually require a minimum 1-year lease with 2 months advance plus 2 months deposit — genuinely flexible 1-3 month furnished stays are more limited and typically found via Airbnb/serviced-apartment operators rather than standard property portals, often at a premium over the advertised long-lease rate.
- Marmaris · TurkeyTRY 15,000 / month · from a local listing · Marmaris (city-wide listings, lower end) · Small studio/1BR, budget end of the marketGood to know: Marmaris is primarily a seasonal package-tourism and retiree-expat town rather than a digital-nomad hub, so rental and pricing data is thinner and less standardized than in cities with an established remote-work scene.
- Mérida · MexicoMX$7,000 / month · estimated · Santiago (Centro Histórico) · Studio or small 1-bedroom apartment in an older, emerging pocket of CentroGood to know: Rents in the nomad-favored parts of Centro and García Ginerés have been rising as more remote workers and expats move in, so listings a couple of years old may undersell current prices.
- Penang · MalaysiaMYR 1,600 / month · from a local listing · Medan Lumba Kuda, Georgetown · 850 sq.ft renovated unit, 3 bedroomsGood to know: Short-term, fully furnished monthly rentals cost noticeably more per month than a standard 12-month unfurnished Malaysian lease — if you plan to stay 3+ months, negotiating a longer lease directly with a landlord (rather than booking via Airbnb) usually saves a lot.
- Perisher · AustraliaA$450 / month · from a local listing · Jindabyne · Smallest/cheapest listed unit on a Jindabyne winter-rental aggregatorGood to know: Perisher itself has essentially no long-term rental housing — on-mountain options are hotel/lodge rooms and nightly holiday-let apartments, or staff dorms restricted to seasonal employees working a minimum of 20 hours/week.
- Phnom Penh · CambodiaKHR 1,615,890 / month · estimated · Toul Tom Poung (Russian Market) · Furnished studio or 1-bedroom apartmentGood to know: Cambodia's economy is heavily dollarized: rent, restaurant bills and most significant purchases are quoted and paid in US dollars, with the Cambodian riel used mainly for small change — so a nomad's real-world budget here is almost entirely USD despite riel being the official currency.
- Phuket · ThailandTHB 13,000 / month · from a local listingGood to know: Phuket has no rail transit, so nearly every nomad ends up renting a scooter or car regardless of neighborhood — factor this into your monthly budget.
- Pichilemu · ChileCLP 380,000 / month · estimated · Centro · Small furnished studio or 1-bedroom apartment, basic finishGood to know: Pichilemu is a small surf town, not an established digital-nomad hub — there's no real 'furnished monthly rental' market the way there is in Santiago or bigger cities, so most long-stay deals happen by direct negotiation with owners or hostels/surf lodges rather than through dedicated rental portals.
- Placencia · BelizeBZD 800 / month · from a survey or cost-of-living site · Placencia Village · Compact furnished studio, near beach/restaurants/grocery storeGood to know: The Belize dollar (BZD) has been fixed at 2 BZD to 1 USD since 1976, and USD cash is widely accepted directly in Placencia — many rentals and some restaurants price in USD rather than BZD.

- Pokhara · NepalNPR 30,000 / month · from a local listing · Lakeside, Street No. 4 · One-room studio apartment, attached bath and kitchenGood to know: Lakeside is by far the easiest place to find furnished monthly rentals, but rates are negotiable — asking prices on Facebook Marketplace and homestay sites often drop with a longer stay or direct negotiation.

- Rishikesh · India₹23,000 / month · from a local listing · Laxman Jhula · 1BHK, basic furnishing (fan, light, wardrobe)Good to know: Property portals like 99acres and Square Yards list many 'furnished' flats that only include basics like a fan, bed and wardrobe rather than full appliances — always confirm exactly what's included before booking a monthly stay.
- San Juan del Sur · NicaraguaNIO 14,701 / month · from a survey or cost-of-living siteGood to know: Most rentals in San Juan del Sur exclude electricity from the rent, and electricity is relatively expensive in Nicaragua — factor a separate utilities budget into any furnished rental.
- Sapa · Vietnam₫5,000,000 / month · estimated · Sapa town center, away from the main tourist strip · Small furnished studio or 1-bedroomGood to know: Sapa is a trekking and tourism town rather than an established digital-nomad hub, so long-term furnished rentals are far less standardized than in places like Da Nang or Hoi An — expect to negotiate directly with homestay/guesthouse owners for monthly rates rather than finding them pre-listed online.
- Siargao · Philippines₱25,000 / month · estimated · General Luna / Catangnan, away from the beachfront · Simple furnished studio or 1-bedroom, fan or basic aircon, no poolGood to know: Vacation-rental platforms like Airbnb and Booking price General Luna units for tourists and can run far above what long-term nomads actually pay — many people find cheaper furnished monthly deals through local Facebook rental groups instead of international platforms.
- Siem Reap · Cambodia$250 / month · from a local listing · Wat Bo · 1-bedroom, 1-bathroom apartmentGood to know: Cambodia's economy is dollarized: rent, restaurant bills, and most goods are priced and paid in USD, with Cambodian riel used mainly for small change under a dollar.
- Ubud · IndonesiaIDR 6,000,000 / month · from a survey or cost-of-living site · Penestanan · Small furnished villa/1BR, budget tierGood to know: Warungs (small family-run local eateries) are dramatically cheaper than the cafes and brunch spots nomads tend to frequent — cooking or eating local can cut your food budget by 3-5x compared to eating exclusively at Western-style cafes.
- Udaipur · India₹13,000 / month · from a local listing · Bhuwana · Studio, ~500 sq.ftGood to know: Rental portals like 99acres and OLX are built around 11-month unfurnished/semi-furnished leases for Indian residents, not furnished month-to-month stays — expect to pay a premium over these listed figures for a genuinely short-term, fully furnished setup, and always confirm in writing what 'furnished' actually includes (AC, kitchen equipment, wifi router) before paying.

- Valparaíso · ChileCLP 400,000 / month · estimated · El Plan or outer Cerro Alegre/Bellavista (proxy, less central unit) · Small studio or 1-bedroom, basic finishes, no ocean viewGood to know: Cerro Alegre and Cerro Concepción command a clear premium over the rest of the city for furnished short-term rentals — expect to pay noticeably more than city-wide cost-of-living averages suggest if you want to be in the walkable, café-heavy heritage core.
- Vientiane · LaosLAK 7,778,444 / month · from a local listing · Sisattanak District (Don Koy Village) · Standard furnished studio apartment in a 4-storey buildingGood to know: Vientiane's rental market is informally dollarized — most agents and landlords quote and expect payment in USD rather than Lao Kip, especially for furnished expat-oriented units.
- Windhoek · NamibiaNAD 7,000 / month · estimated · Klein Windhoek / Eros · Small furnished 1-bedroom apartmentGood to know: There isn't a large dedicated furnished short-term rental market in Windhoek the way there is in bigger nomad hubs — most 'monthly rental' inventory shows up on general platforms (Airbnb, Vrbo, Flatio) rather than dedicated long-stay portals, so it's worth messaging hosts directly to negotiate a monthly rate even if the listing shows nightly pricing.
- Yerevan · ArmeniaAMD 109,054 / month · estimated · Kond · Studio or 1-bedroom apartmentGood to know: Furnished short-term rentals cluster in Kentron; if you want a cheaper option that's still walkable to the center, Kond (a historic hillside quarter) is repeatedly cited as a budget-friendly alternative just outside Kentron.
