Methodology
This page explains how Nomadr's research is made, how our ratings work and where the limits are. Nomadr covers 333 destinations across 44 research categories.
How We Research Each Destination
- AI-generated, web-grounded. We don't license data from a vendor, and we don't have local researchers in every city.
- One research brief per category. Each category has its own brief, applied the same way to every city, so destinations can be compared like for like. The brief tells the model to prioritize sources from the last 12 months and to say so when information is thin instead of guessing.
- Structured answers. The model returns each answer in a fixed structure (summary, figures, notes, sources). That is what lets us display, filter and compare cities consistently.
- Automated checks. Before research goes live, automated checks look for duplicates, vague or unsupported claims, and results about the wrong place. If a claim can't be grounded, we leave it out rather than publish it.
- No made-up facts on the page. A tile only states a fact when we have stored data behind it. Otherwise it's hidden or says the information isn't available.
Dates and Sources
- Every section shows the date it was last researched.
- Where sources were recorded, we list them under the section. Some sections don't have sources recorded yet, and they say so. Treat those with extra care.
- Refreshes: We refresh our research manually, roughly every six months or as needed.
How Ratings Work
- Ratings compare destinations with each other. A rating from 1 to 10 shows where a destination sits among all the destinations on Nomadr for that category. A 10 means it is among the strongest of our 333 in that category, not that it is perfect.
- Rated categories. Day-to-day cost, internet, visas, coworking, English-friendliness, walkability, wellness and getting there. Safety is shown separately, as a violent-crime level.
- Not rated on purpose. Categories like nightlife, beaches, nature, climate and food are shown as descriptions and tags, because “better” depends on your taste. Honest downsides, culture and etiquette, neighborhoods and similar sections are information only.
- No overall score. We don't rank cities with a single “best city” number.
- Cost levels. We show day-to-day costs as levels, from Very Low to Very High, compared with the other destinations on Nomadr. We use levels instead of exact prices because prices move and exact figures suggest more precision than we have.
- English. Destinations where English is a native language get the top English rating.
How We Measure Safety
Our safety level reflects violent crime only. Petty theft, scams, politics and natural hazards are not part of the level, though the safety section covers them where relevant. The labels say what they measure, for example “Low violent crime”.
How We Choose Co-Living Listings
A property is listed as co-living when the operator's own website describes it as co-living and allows stays of about a month or longer. The same rule applies to every operator. Our relationship with an operator, including affiliate links, never affects whether or how it's listed.
Our Independence
Nomadr doesn't show display ads as of October 2026. Some links, such as booking and co-living links, are affiliate links, and we may earn a commission if you use them. Affiliate links and any other commercial relationship never affect our ratings, rankings or what we recommend.
Limits
Our research can contain mistakes or be out of date. Not every category is available for every destination. Visa rules in particular change often, so always confirm on the official government website before you book or travel. Nothing on Nomadr is legal, visa, medical or financial advice.
Report an Error
Spotted something wrong? Email hello@getnomadr.com with the city, the section and what's incorrect. We aim to review reports within 3 days and update the section when the report checks out.
