Good to know
Good to Know
- Almost every bar and club in Muscat sits inside a hotel — standalone liquor-licensed bars are rare, so venue choice is closely tied to hotel choice.
- You must generally be 21+ to enter a bar or club, and dress codes (no shorts/sandals) are enforced at most hotel venues.
- Weekends run Friday–Saturday, so Thursday and Friday nights are when venues are busiest; midweek nightlife is quiet.
- Genuinely late-night/after-hours options are thin — expect most venues to close by 1–2am, with only a few (like On The Rocks on Thu/Fri) pushing to 2–3am.
- The Shatti Al Qurum / Al Qurum / Al Khuwair coastal strip is the practical hub for nomad-relevant nightlife, clustering most of the hotel bars and lounges within a short taxi ride of one another.
- We deliberately excluded a couple of commonly-listed venues (e.g. Habana Sports Bar) because available descriptions suggested a notably younger/student-skewed crowd, and one popular nightclub (Copacabana) because we couldn't verify a specific, current address close to the nomad hub.
- Muscat's 'festival scene' is really one big month-long winter city festival (Muscat Nights, held every January) rather than a series of independent boutique music festivals — don't expect an EDM/indie festival circuit here.
- Most stages and performances inside Muscat Nights are free; only a handful of special headline shows or unrelated ticketed concerts (like Musical Fiesta) require paid tickets.
- Musically it leans toward Arabic pop, Gulf folk, and traditional Omani instrumental music rather than club, rock, or electronic genres — go for cultural immersion, not an all-night rave.
- January is the peak month: hotels around the festival period fill up, so book accommodation well in advance if visiting specifically for it.
- Free shuttle/municipal transport is typically arranged between major venues and hotels during the festival — worth asking your accommodation about rather than relying only on taxis.

Festivals And Regulated Nightlife
Adult Entertainment
- Nearby Hub Checked
- Yes
- Note
- Oman is an Islamic-law jurisdiction where strip clubs, brothels, and commercial adult entertainment are illegal; no genuine licensed venue of this kind exists in Muscat
Music Festival Scene
- Overview
- Muscat does not have an independent, standalone 'music festival' circuit in the Western club/EDM sense. Its main recurring live-music event is embedded inside the city's large government-run winter festival, currently branded 'Muscat Nights' (formerly 'Muscat Festival'), plus occasional one-off ticketed concert nights and Royal Opera House Muscat programming.
Major Events
Muscat Nights (Formerly Muscat Festival)
- Cost
- OMR 0.00
Most activities and stages are free to enter; only a small number of special ticketed shows require paid admission.
- Venues
- Spread across eight venues in the capital governorate including Qurum Natural Park (flagship site), Naseem Garden, Wadi al Khoudh, Amerat Park, Seeb Beach, Quriyat, Bausher Sands, and Oman Automobile Association grounds
- Character
- Overwhelmingly a family-oriented, government-organized cultural fair rather than a nightlife/club music festival — expect Arabic pop and folk stages, heritage villages, fireworks/drone shows, and SME souqs rather than underground DJs or late-night dance sets.
- Attendance
- 1.7 million visitors welcomed in 2025 according to organizers; the 2026 edition was projected by the Muscat Municipality to attract more than two million visitors
- Dates 2026
- January 1–31, 2026
- Typical Season
- Runs annually in winter, historically spanning parts of December/January through February depending on the year
- Source Note

- Date
- April 17, 2026

- Muscat (ticketed venue event)
- Ticket Price

Royal Opera House Muscat Special Performances
- Genre
- Classical, orchestral, opera, occasional international touring acts
- Notes
- During the Muscat Nights season, the Royal Opera House Muscat hosts additional concerts and cultural performances as part of the wider winter festival programming, offering a more formal classical/orchestral counterpoint to the outdoor pop and folk stages.
Muscat's nightlife is modest compared to Gulf neighbors like Dubai — almost all bars and clubs operate inside licensed hotels, since standalone venues generally cannot hold liquor licenses. Most of the scene clusters in the Shatti Al Qurum / Al Qurum / Al Khuwair strip along the coast, which functions as the city's de facto nomad/expat hub, with a couple of Corniche/Muttrah options near the old town.
After Hours Late Night Notes
Genuine after-hours options are limited: Al Ghazal Pub and On The Rocks (Thu/Fri until 2–3am) are among the few venues open past 1am; Trader Vic's runs to 1:30am most nights. Nightlife generally winds down earlier midweek and picks up on the Thu/Fri 'weekend' nights.
Regulatory And Practical Notes
- Licensing
- Alcohol is served almost exclusively in licensed hotel restaurants/bars rather than standalone bars.
- Dress Code
- Most bars/clubs sit inside luxury hotels and expect smart dress — shorts and sandals are typically turned away.
- Happy Hour
- Common, usually 5–8pm at hotel bars.
- Minimum Age
- 21+ to enter a bar or club
- Weekend Days
- Friday and Saturday (per Oman's work week)
