• February is the driest month with terrific visibility for diving and early whale shark sightings.
• March–April peak season offers dry weather and reliable whale shark encounters; expect higher prices and more crowds.
• May–June and November are shoulder seasons with lower prices and fewer tourists, though rainfall increases.
• September–October carry the highest rain and hurricane-watch risk, but offer 30–40% discounts on accommodations.
• Utila sits below the main hurricane belt; the last direct hurricane hit was in 1998 (Hurricane Mitch). Tropical storms are possible but rare.
• Water temperature ranges from coolest (26°C (79°F) in winter) to warmest (29°C (84°F) in summer); a 3mm wetsuit works most of the year; 5mm for winter months.
• Best underwater visibility and diving conditions occur January–April and again in the dry shoulder months; water clarity remains good year-round on calm days.
