Connectivity & Internet in Rishikesh

Good to Know

• Jio and Airtel are the most reliable carriers for both home broadband and mobile backup; keep a mobile hotspot plan as your secondary connection for uninterrupted work.
• Most co-living spaces and rental accommodations in Rishikesh (especially in Tapovan and Laxman Jhula) include fiber internet as standard; confirm broadband type and backup power before booking.
• Local prepaid SIM plans are extremely affordable (₹199–₹299/month) and widely available at phone shops; international e-SIM providers cost more but skip documentation requirements.
• Install any international e-SIM from a website before arriving in India—several travel-eSIM apps were delisted from Indian app stores in 2024, though hardware support and local carriers are unaffected.
• Real-world broadband speeds in Rishikesh average 20–50 Mbps for fiber, sometimes reaching higher; mobile 4G speeds are typically adequate for video calls but less stable during heavy congestion.
• Power outages, though less frequent than in some Indian towns, still occur; accommodations often include backup generators or inverters—confirm this when securing housing.
