Good to Know

• There is no rail link in Fiji; no Uber or Lyft. All ground transport is road-based and regulated.
• Yellow taxis are the only authorized taxis at the airport; accept only cash payments.
• If arriving late in the day with plans to connect to Yasawa/Mamanuca ferries the same day, plan carefully—last ferries typically depart Port Denarau around 15:00. Late arrivals often require an overnight stay in Nadi.
• Domestic flights have strict baggage limits (15 kg per piece). Overweight penalties apply; confirm with carrier if carrying heavy equipment (e.g., diving gear).
• Book domestic flights to Taveuni and Kadavu well in advance (weeks ahead during dry season June–October), as these routes use the smallest aircraft and sell out quickly.
• Weather-related delays on domestic flights are common during the wet season (November–April), especially fog at Nausori Airport in Suva. Build schedule flexibility and avoid tight connections.
• If transferring from international to domestic flight, allow 2–3 hours minimum to clear immigration, collect bags, clear customs, and walk to domestic terminal for re-check-in.
• ATMs and currency exchange available in the international terminal; withdraw FJD cash for taxis, buses, and small purchases upon arrival. Card payments accepted at airport and major resorts on Denarau, but not on local buses or markets.
• Seasickness is common on inter-island ferries (especially Koro Sea and northern Yasawa crossings). Take medication at least 30 minutes before boarding; choose amidships, lower-deck seating; and maintain fresh air exposure.
• Ferry schedules change frequently. Confirm current timetables and fares with operators when booking rather than relying on historical information.
