Emergencies in Jeffreys Bay

• Save 112 in your phone before you need it — on most South African mobile networks it works even with zero airtime or credit.
• South Africa does not have one single unified emergency number the way some countries do (like 911) — 10111 is for police, 10177 is for ambulance/fire, and 112 is the mobile catch-all that routes you to the right service.
• Jeffreys Bay is a smaller coastal town — for serious trauma or major medical emergencies, the nearest full private hospital emergency department is roughly an hour away in Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), so private ambulance/medical evacuation cover is worth having.
• Keep the local SAPS Jeffreys Bay station number handy in addition to 10111, since local station lines can sometimes get through faster than the national call centre for non-life-threatening matters.
• There is no hospital inside Jeffreys Bay itself that we could confirm is currently open with a staffed, formally designated trauma/ER unit — plan on the possibility of being transferred toward Humansdorp or Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) for anything serious.
• The Policlinic building on Hanekam Drive houses independent GPs and specialists but its own listing explicitly warns it no longer has emergency services — for emergencies, contact a doctor directly or head straight to the nearest hospital rather than assuming walk-in ER care there.
• A private hospital for Jeffreys Bay has been announced and partly built over several years but its opening/operational status was not confirmed at the time of research — don't rely on it being open without checking current local information first.
• For after-hours medical issues, a local physicians' practice (Doctors @ 34 Da Gama) acts as the community's after-hours contact point and can divert to a private ambulance service.
