Good to know
Good to Know
- Being a British Overseas Territory does NOT mean UK entry rules apply — Cayman runs its own separate immigration system, so British citizens still go through the same visitor-stamp process as everyone else (just visa-exempt).
- Border officers commonly stamp visa-exempt arrivals in for only 30 days by default, even though the law allows up to six months — if you plan to stay longer than a month, bring proof of funds, a return ticket, and accommodation details to request more time at arrival, or file an extension with Customs & Border Control in George Town before your stamp expires.
- A standard tourist/visitor stamp strictly prohibits any paid work, remote or otherwise, performed 'for' a local entity — nomads working for foreign employers/clients while physically present should be aware Cayman has a separate long-stay program for this purpose (covered elsewhere in this guide), rather than relying on the tourist entry.
- Always carry your arrival immigration card until departure — you may be asked to present it again when leaving.
- The GCCP has historically been marketed as the 'high income' end of digital nomad visas — its income thresholds ($100k+ individual, $150k+ couple, $180k+ family) are well above most other Caribbean remote-work programs.
- Before planning a move on this basis, directly verify current application availability with Cayman Islands immigration/tourism authorities — public information as of mid-2026 is inconsistent about whether new applications are currently being accepted.
- The Cayman Islands' zero-income-tax status is a genuine, long-standing feature of local law, but it does not exempt nomads from their home country's tax filing and residency rules — plan around your home country's tax obligations separately.
- Cost of living in George Town/Grand Cayman is very high, so the income minimums are calibrated to local costs, not just an arbitrary bar.

Visa Free Entry
- Summary
- Most nomads from major passport-holding countries can enter the Cayman Islands without a pre-arranged visa for tourism/business purposes, since the Cayman Islands is a British Overseas Territory with its own entry rules (not the same as UK rules).
- Who Qualifies
- Nationals of the USA, Canada, the UK and most Commonwealth countries do not require a visa to enter. Citizens of the EU, Australia, New Zealand and Japan are also generally visa-exempt for tourism. A published list of nationalities that DO require a visa (e.g. citizens of Jamaica, Honduras, the Philippines, China, India, and several dozen other countries) is maintained by Customs & Border Control.
- Who Needs A Visa
- Nationals of countries on the official CBC 'visa required' list must obtain a visa in advance; these cannot be obtained on arrival. Certain nationalities on this list may instead qualify to enter visa-free for up to 30 days if they hold a valid US, UK, or Canadian visa and travel directly from that issuing country.
- Cruise Passengers
- Same-day cruise passengers who disembark and reboard the same vessel generally do not go through full immigration and do not need a visa regardless of nationality, though this exemption does not apply to nationals from certain higher-risk countries who still require a transit visa even for a same-day port call.
- Visa Application Fee If Required
- KYD 92
- Visa Processing Time If Required
- Roughly seven to ten working days after a complete application is submitted to the Cayman Islands Visa Office, longer during peak travel periods.

Standard Stay Length
- Extensions
- Visitors wanting to stay longer than their initial stamp must apply to Customs & Border Control in George Town before their current permission expires. Extensions beyond a cumulative 182 days in any 12-month period are only granted in rare circumstances.
- Initial Stamp
- Immigration officers typically issue an initial permission of up to 30 days on arrival for visa-exempt visitors, though this can be shorter at the officer's discretion.
- Legal Maximum
- By law a visitor with no other basis to be in the Islands (e.g. no work permit or residency right) may be admitted for up to a total of six months (182 days) in a 12-month period, and officers will often grant longer than 30 days upfront if a traveler shows proof of funds, accommodation, and a return ticket.
Entry Process For Visa Exempt Visitors
- Present a valid passport (must be valid at least beyond your intended departure date, though airlines commonly enforce a 6-month rule for boarding)
- Show a return or onward ticket
- Be prepared to show proof of sufficient funds (bank/investment statement) and accommodation details (hotel booking or lease) if asked
- Retain the immigration arrival card issued on entry — it may be requested again on departure
- No work, paid services, or business solicitation is permitted on a standard visitor stamp
Tax Notes
- Corporate And Other Direct Taxes
- There is also no corporate income tax, no inheritance/estate tax, and no general property tax (aside from one-time stamp duty on real estate transfers); government revenue instead comes from import duties, stamp duties, and licensing/registration fees.
- Personal Income Tax
- The Cayman Islands imposes no personal income tax, capital gains tax, payroll tax, or withholding tax on residents or foreign earnings, and there is no distinction in tax treatment between citizens and foreign nationals.
- Tax Residency Trigger
- Tax advisory sources (not an official Cayman Islands government tax statute, since there is no local income tax to trigger) describe a working definition of Cayman tax residency as being present 183+ days in a calendar year, or having a permanent place of abode on-island plus at least 30 days' presence in that year — but because there is no local income tax regime, this concept mainly matters for CRS/financial reporting and home-country tax rules, not for any Cayman Islands tax liability.
- Home Country Obligations
- The Cayman Islands' zero-tax status does not remove a nomad's tax obligations in their home country; US citizens in particular must continue filing and reporting worldwide income to the IRS regardless of Cayman residency status.
Visa Length
Valid for a maximum of 24 months
Program Name
Global Citizen Concierge Program (GCCP)
Renewal Path
An annual fee becomes due on the 1st anniversary of the Certificate Holder's arrival; no new certificate or additional stamp is issued for this annual renewal within the 24-month period — the original certificate/stamp remains valid. The certificate cannot be renewed or extended beyond the 24-month maximum; holders wishing to remain longer are advised to consult an immigration lawyer about transitioning to a standard work permit or other residency route before expiry.
Program Status
Uncertain / effectively paused for new applicants. The official Cayman Islands government page for the program states the Global Citizen Concierge Call Centre and Ticketing system are currently not in operation, though existing Certificate Holders can still contact the Concierge Management team for assistance. Several third-party visa trackers report the program as closed to new applicants since 2024, while others still list it as active — status should be reconfirmed directly with Cayman Islands authorities before planning a move.
Visa Ease Tier
moderate
Application Path
Application is submitted online through the official Cayman Islands government portal (ourcayman.ky). Processing typically takes about 3-4 weeks. Upon approval, holders travel to the Cayman Islands and have their passport endorsed with the certificate stamp.
Documents Required
Documents Required
- Valid passport, with validity extending at least 6 months beyond the intended stay
- Letter on company letterhead proving employment (or business ownership) outside the Cayman Islands, stating position, length of employment, and annual salary
- Proof of the legal existence of the employer/company (e.g. Certificate of Good Standing or Certificate of Incorporation, plus company website/social media details)
- Police clearance / federal criminal record certificate (issued within the last 6 months, from country of residence for more than 6 months), submitted with fingerprint verification
- Valid health insurance covering all applicants in the party for at least the first 30 days after arrival (local health insurance must then be obtained within 30 days of arrival)
- Any foreign-language certificates/documents (birth, marriage, divorce, police clearance, etc.) must include an English translation
Visa Ease Tier Rationale
Cayman offers visa-free entry up to 6 months for most nationalities and a zero-tax environment, but its dedicated nomad visa (GCCP) has high income thresholds and appears effectively paused for new applicants.
Minimum Physical Presence
Certificate Holders must be physically present in the Cayman Islands for at least 90 days per 12-month period to remain valid
Eligibility And Work Rules
Eligibility And Work Rules
- Applicant must be employed by, or own, a business registered and operating outside of the Cayman Islands, or be a freelancer/remote worker with clients abroad.
- Permit/certificate holders are not permitted to work for or provide goods/services to any Cayman Islands-based entity or client.
- Successful applicants do not become legal residents of the Cayman Islands through this program; it is a temporary, non-immigrant remote-work certificate.
