Good to know
Good to Know
- Funchal has a genuinely established nomad/expat infrastructure with multiple overlapping communities, unlike many smaller European cities.
- Weekly coffee meetups rotate between different cafés, so check Slack channels for current venue locations.
- German speakers benefit from a large, well-organized community with regular monthly meetups.
- The community extends beyond Funchal—major initiatives like Digital Nomads Madeira Village (in nearby Ponta do Sol) anchor the broader island ecosystem.
- Meetup.com and Facebook are the primary discovery platforms; WhatsApp groups spin off from there for day-to-day coordination.
- Social events are mixed (foodies, hikers, surfers, business-focused) rather than purely networking-oriented, making it easier to build genuine connections.
