Small nomad scene
Good to know
Good to Know
- Cluj's nomad and expat community is strongest around tech, startups, and remote work sectors; social meetups are well-organized but the overall scene is smaller than major Western European cities.
- The city hosts regular networking events through both formal platforms (InterNations, Meetup.com) and informal gatherings (cafes, coworking spaces), with Punta platform offering curated community events.
- English is widely spoken among younger professionals and in hospitality/service sectors, reducing language barriers for newcomers.
- The expat community tends to be more cohesive and tight-knit than in larger cities, making it easier to integrate into networks once you join initial meetups.
- Multiple large annual festivals (TIFF, Untold, Electric Castle) and cultural events draw both locals and international crowds, creating natural networking opportunities.
- Facebook groups (especially 'Expats in Cluj' with 10,000+ members) are practical resources for both social connections and practical settling-in advice.
